SG Meeting 3/25/08 6 pm
- Class council elections, poll now open until Friday. Polls will close when 2/3 of the class votes. Speeches are available on website for viewing. No campaigning.
- Dean’s Cup. April 11-19th. Sign up in the student lounge.
- Medical School Conventions. 9 topic choices narrowed down from 20. Students will get to pick their top 5 choices. Personal schedule will be made based on this. First years chose their top five today, second years will chose tomorrow. 3rd year opinions on MSC. Good workshops were Medical Malpractice and Financial Planning. Workshops on Specialties/Transitions were interesting, but not sure if they were useful. This year’s MSC will provide FAU students with free parking . Free breakfast and lunch for all students. Speakers booked for all sessions
- 2008 MSC Topics: Leadership, Financial Planning, Academic Medicine vs. Private Practice, Suturing workshop, Boards Review, Medical Malpractice, Transition to wards, Successful Matches, Specialties.
- Evaluation for post MSC. Talk to O’Connell to change for future MSC improvement
- Dean O’Connell retiring rumor put to rest. He will be returning next year.
- LCME meeting tomorrow 4th floor auditorium @ noon
- Possibility of extending gym hours. Waiting to hear back. Current schedule has gym closing at 5 pm on weekends and 10 pm on weekdays. Would like to extend gym hours on weekends.
- Reservations for student lounge will be added to website, but not there yet. When placing reservation, possibility of phone number showing up online. Frankie will follow up on this.
- 2009 update: Spring clothing drive in April for Miami rescue Mission. Transition meeting with 4th years.
- 2011 update: sweatshirt sale $25. Pre-order/order forms in mailboxes. 4th years did hat sales last year. Also Spring Ball plans have yet to be finalized. Possible coffee fundraiser. $1000 budget may be spent on purchasing sweatshirts or spring ball location rental.
- Possible SG, Class Council dinner?
- 2008 Update: MATCH!! Graduation May 10th. Also BBQ @ Dean’s house.
- Moving SG meetings to noon? Once a month with lunch included.
- Class dues for 2011. One time payment that goes up every year. (Ex: 2nd years paid $75 and then went up by $10). If don’t pay class dues, pay more for senior dinner.
- New constitution. Very basic 2 pgs. Adding statues. When will new constitution be instituted?
- No directory this year. We don’t have the resources. Aliye collected emails. Panta emailed to Jim

- PAFF Awards
- Elections for class council: 1st and 2nd years ok, 3rd years might have to do election over
- Organization Applications: currently ongoing deadline. Secretary and Treasurer will work together to decide on deadline to apply and get dean’s approval. Need to reapply every year if organization already exists and for budgeting. Deadline for last year was first of June. Need to create an excel sheet of all groups and send to dean’s for approval
- Deadline for applying for student organizations; 2 deadlines: Fall and Spring. Form is 7-8 pps
- Constitution: written by Brandon, need 2/3 of entire class to vote, add some statue to make constitution more flexible, online for 3rd years, email explanation of constitution
- New Committee Apps: explain each event, chair person elected (co-chair, 2 for each position) and they choose a committee
- MSC-> Keeping or not? Post MSC evaluation
- Nadine-> deadline for 3rd years. If they don’t what happens? No class council?

- Dean’s Cup: administrative schedule, 240 T-shirts
- MSC tomorrow 4/10/08
- PAFF Awards April 30th in the Lois Pope Auditorium. Plaques for winner’s, best faculty
- Class council elections for 2.5 weeks. 3rd years need more votes or elections will be declared null and void. Deadline on April 20th. 3rd year positions are not contested (unopposed). Lack of apathy for running for positions. Need quorum for constitution. Consequence of not reaching quorum? No ethics rep. Cancel or next year. Administration to make announcement about elections. Possibly holding $ for organization, will get back to Dr. O’Connell.
- Student Government: PR and Publicity for next year to improve involvement
- Student lounge reservations approved by Dean Hernandez. Privacy issue with online reservations, name and phone number appear online. Can either put behind password or make cell phone optional (not required)
- Emails for book sales and apt rentals. Marketplace sections on SG website. IT people to block those emails. Student consensus to keep email for book sales and apt rentals.
- Extending Gym Hours-emailed but no response

- Ethics Council-change in code to make ethics council more available. Currently person who complaint is against find all info. Change this so they will not know until investigative hearing. Dean concerned about discoverable info and right to know about complaint. Ethics chancellor and class rep have access to info.
- 4th year- 12 scramblers match. 4 derm. 3rd year help and parent association. Calle ocho only $1000 profit, but made more($6000). 4th years are busy with paperwork, contracts and finding places to live. Upcoming BBQ. Senior Professionalism Feedback
- Raise $ for graduation for banquet and senior week. Alumni Banquet? Marsha Kegley- dean asked for $15,000
- Class of 2009: election issue, spring clothing drive, president transitioning, schedules ok, 21/22, class meeting Monday with sophomores, 6 weeks elective time, seniors get first choice so some electives may be filled
- Class of 2010: waiting for schedules, getting fingerprinted for VA, Class council elections almost done, class breakfast closure to the year. 2010 positions are unopposed. Currently in PBL
- New order for headsets for computer lab ($500 total, $50 each). Bin with headsets. Turn in ID to get them. New computers are also in. Dean’s money to repair circuits in student lounge. IT committee? Nick and team
- Class of 2011- sweatshirt sales for $25. Class get together, small BBQ, fundraiser raised $2500 for melanoma
- Academic Societies: Goals for upcoming year, individual society applications, Harvey training, IV and intubation training, competency week, Trainers training by end of month, New games day ideas-society vs. society, New anatomy coordinators and tutors, April 16th at Gordon Birch Thank for old TA’s, Premed Advising, Faculty mentor luncheon to recruit new faculty members
- DOCS: transition, 2 exec meetings, full staff meeting, Monday selecting associate staff, Goals for year: Physician Board letters to physician inviting (good number of responses), 1 attending from each specialty with 2 resident for each health fair. Training handbooks for 1st and 2nd years of each station. Education for students and patients, tobacco cessation. Strengthen follow-up, change patient behaviors. Good follow up with Pap Smears. Student advisory 3rd and 4th years assess quality of follow-up time at each station

- AAMC Community Service Award in 1993-UM was first recipient. Can apply again(every 10 years) application due May/April collaborate for strong application
- Dean’s words: we are #52 out of 156 medical schools. Based on GPA, MCAT, NIH funding, Student teacher ratio, etc
- LCME- Megha. Student self study survey 4/18. Important!! Over 50% of student body needs to complete. $50 gift card for 1 person from each class. Takes 20 minutes. 300 questions for upperclassmen. 5/9 final report. Need someone to analyze data. 4th years will leave soon; need to send email every day. Sherry Ketiz analyzes faculty evaluations. Robert Duncan in biostats dept.

- Organization of Student Representatives (OSR) – Lindley Barbee – newsletter w/National mtg update, etc. and Regional mtg in Destin coming up
- Ethics Chancellor – Nadine Housri – 2 lunchtime presentation, also added lectures in conjunction w/Doctoring program, re-writing Ethics Code to make wording more clear

- Student health care: Need update on primary care for student clinic, appt scheduling hotline, staff negotiator for student plans
- Parking: make it the main issue at the next Dean’s meeting on Oct. 10th, ask Deans O’Connell and Hernandez to bring poll results from orientation
- Senior Budget: on back-burner for now but want to get commitment to cover certain costs
- Organization Applications: move application deadline from August to January, possibly move organization fair as well
