Family Medicine Interest Group

• The Family Medicine Interest Group (FMIG) aims to enhance student knowledge about family medicine and the spectrum of career opportunities available within this specialty.

Geriatrics & Palliative Medicine Interest Group

• The purpose of the Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine Interest Group is to introduce medical students to the specialties of geriatrics and palliative medicine. Students will be able to use the GPMIG as a resource regardless of their chosen specialty, as the principles espoused by geriatrics and palliative medicine can be applied to any field of medicine. The GPMIG also organizes the annual Rose Ceremony cadaver memorial service in conjunction with freshman gross anatomy course.

Hispanic-America Medical Student Association

• The purpose of Hispanic American Medical Student Association is to promote and provide awareness of the Hispanic community and provide support for medical students of diverse backgrounds interested in enhancing their cultural linguistic competence to better serve Hispanic patients.

Islamic Society of the University of Miami, Medical Division (ISUM, MD)

• The Islamic Society at the University of Miami, Medical Division, is a student run organization to foster an understanding and appreciation of Islam on campus and to provide services to the community.

Medic Out

• A Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender (GLBT) Ally Organization at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. MedicOUT aims to create a more supportive environment for GLBT individuals both on the medical campus and in the medical community;raise awareness of GLBT health issues and advocate for the rights of GLBT patients; and work with the administration to make the curriculum accurately reflect the health needs of the GLBT population. We encourage students both straight and gay to join and support the GLBT community.

Miami Service, Instruction, Guidance (MSIG)

• A student group dedicated to tutoring at risk youth in Miami. Visit our website for more information.

Ophthalmology Interest Club (OIC)

• Organizes community vision screenings with the University of Miami health fairs as well as the Bascom Palmer Vision Van and trains medical students to perform an essential eye exam.  We have also established a program to match interested students with faculty mentors and research opportunities.  Furthermore, we have put together a student-run lecture series for medical students on relevant topics in ophthalmology.

Otolaryngology Interest Group

• The purpose of the Otolaryngology Interest Group (ENT-IG) is to increase student exposure to the field of otolaryngology by developing the knowledge and skills necessary to prepare for a career in the specialty. The organization provides mentoring, clinical and research opportunities to help guide students during medical school.

Physicians for Human Rights

• Physicians for Human Rights is an organization that raises awareness and performs activism regarding human rights issues on both a local and a global level. We believe that as health professionals, we have the obligation and the privilege to advance the cause of the humanity that lies at the heart of medicine by ensuring that everyone has the ability to exercise their inalienable, universal human rights.

Psychiatry Interest Group

• PsychSIG is an organization committed to connecting medical students with interests in psychiatry and promoting a heightened awareness and involvement in the mental health care needs in our community.

Student Interest Group in Neurology

• The purpose of SIGN is to introduce medical students to the field of neurology by bringing them together with fellow students with similar interests through discussions by neurologists, patient presentations, seminars, journal clubs, learning materials, and arranged shadowings of neurologists in the workplace.  Medical students become aware of opportunities, and participate in activities, related to the field of neurology, including opportunities for research, creating a new generation of neurologists and American Academy of Neurology members. 

University of Miami Medical Women

• The University of Miami Medical Women’s Club (UMMW) is an organization dedicated to promoting awareness about women’s health. Our mission is to solidify the bond between community physicians and medical students, keeping current on issues that affect women’s health, and volunteering our time and effort to ensuring that the public remains informed about these issues.
